WIN AWESOME STUFF! Team Fight Fundraiser

Thanksgiving was yesterday and one things I am always thankful for is my HEALTH.

There was a time when I was not very healthy--battling high blood pressure, high blood sugar, I was obese and my resting pulse was thru the roof. If I had not taken steps to fix my life, I could have ended up on a multitude of meds.

Others are not so lucky. I have so many friends and family members who have been touched by cancer.
Recently a very young friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily, they got the cancer quickly but she had a double mastectomy and is recovering from that, ready to battle what's next.

In 2011, Rev3 had teamed up with Ulman Cancer Fund and Team Fight to help them help others who are battling cancer. There was the Run Across America, the Key to Keys ride and of course, the Half Full Triathlon!!

I joined forces with Team Fight this year and have just a couple short weeks before fundraising is done for the 2013 season. In an effort to meet my goals and THANK YOU for supporting this amazing cause, I am doing a FUNDRAISING RAFFLE DRIVE!!

For every $5 donation to my page, you will get an entry into a multitude of prizes available!! You can even designate WHICH prize you want your "ticket" to go into...or you can have fun and and choose a WILDCARD entry.

So what's up for grabs??

Tis the season to be swimming so you will NEED this awesome TriSwim package from SBR Sports!!

I will even through in some awesome FOGGIES to keep your goggles clear!

It's about CANCER

A couple days ago, Ulman Cancer Fund and Rev 3 made the announcement that Lance Armstrong would be   participating in the HalfFull triathlon in Columbia MD on 10/7/12.

By now we are sure that you have heard that Lance Armstrong will be participating as a survivor in the Half Full Triathlon on October 7th. It's important to know that 100% of the entry fees go directly to The Ulman Cancer Fund. Our goal in being involved with this event has been and will continue to be, to raise funds and awareness for young adults battling cancer! It is our feeling that adding Lance to the field only helps to accomplish that goal.

To say that this has created a bit of controversy is an understatement and the things that have been posted on Twitter and Slowtwitch are pretty intense--on both sides of the fence.

The thing that people are not seeing here is that this is not about Lance Armstrong. This is not about racing. This is about raising money for a charity that helps young people with cancer. I hope that you never have to use the services of Ulman Cancer Fund or Livestrong but if you do, know that they are there to help you. And at the end of the day this is what it is all about. HELPING PEOPLE.

But here are some facts to ponder:
-Rev3 makes NO money from the HalfFull Tri. UCF is the charity that Rev3 supports. This year, much of the Rev3 staff and team ran across America in an effort to raise money for UCF.
-Lance is a participant in a charity event, he is not racing. He will be a part of the cancer survivor wave. He is not there as a profession athlete. He is there to lend support to Ulman Cancer Fund.
-Lance is not accepting any kind of "appearance fee"

“This race is a great example of what cancer survivorship is all about – not just surviving this disease, but truly living life on your own terms. My Foundation is proud to support the Ulman Cancer Fund and the great work they’re doing on behalf of young adult cancer survivors.” ~ Lance Armstrong

“Half Full has always been about raising awareness and resources to support our programs in the young adult cancer fight,” said Ulman Cancer Fund COO and Half Full Race Director Brian Satola. “We thank Lance and the rest of our athletes for supporting an event that will enable us to change countless lives.”

I love what my team mate Alexander had to say about this:

I couldn't be prouder to say I am a Team Rev3 Triathlon Member ...especially after the announcement today about allowing Lance to race...
My feelings about Lance Armstrong don't matter. What matters are the kids in this world who battle cancer. Everyone, pick your BATTLES (pun intended) wisely.
Thank you REVOLUTION3 Triathlon (REV3TRI) for making a decision, although controversial, to help people beyond the sport of triathlon. At the end of the day, who really cares if Lance raced or didn't race; ultimately so much more funds will be raised and publicity gained for such an amazing cause, the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

And I will close this post with a quote directly from Charlie, the man behind Rev3:

Take sport out of this.  This is about young adults fighting cancer.  The PR generated today has brought Ulman a level of exposure that is significant.  If this is able to help just one more person fighting cancer, then i'm for it.  Sometimes my business, Rev3 is about people and not about triathlon.

Running with Kelsey

From the Rev 3 Blog-running with Survivor Kelsey!!

Running through the night in the rainy mountains while the sun rose, and now running in the desert while the sun sets has been a serene and rewarding experience. I am so grateful to be part of Rev3′s Run Across America.
I’m running to bring awareness to the Ulman Cancer Fund. I think Rev3′s commitment to supporting and fundraising for the cause is inspirational. They have enabled me to push myself to run longer, harder, and more often.
I’ve become personally involved with UCF through Team Fight because I love everything the foundation stands for. I had skin cancer when I was 16 and didnt reach out to anyone for support. It would have been nice to know that others have gone through what I was going through. I am proud to say that my newly found love of running and involvement in UCF may help change someones cancer experience.
So I run for all those, friends and strangers, that are going through treatment. My next run is for you.

You can view more of pictures here.

Let's support Ulman Cancer Fund and all of those fighting!!
Remember, for every TWO DOLLARS you donate, you earn an entry to my giveaway!!
It is only $2, can you forgo a cup of Dunkin' Donuts this week? I can, no DD for me this week and all the money I would spend on coffee is going into the UCF!

Also, you could win 3 months of FREE COACHING!! Check it out :)

My Life as a TriMommy-3 months of Coaching!!

If you can't help with a donation, please help spread the word about Run Across America. Tweet, share on Facebook, talk about it on your blogs!

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

So I have long hair. I am affectionately known around town that "that girl with the long blonde braid out running/biking/being crazy" and I am somewhat attached to it. I have played with my hair over the years, shorter, I went RED for a while on a whim when I lived in Boston...but basically, I am boring and I keep my hair long, blonde and usually braided. I really wish I had the conjones to just chop it all off into some super stylish asymmetrical bob-like do and go all platinum or something but no.

Long. Blonde.
Every time I change it, I always go back to it. It's me.

Sadly, my hair guru Tina moved two states away and while I love her, frankly the two hour drive would really cut into my training time so....luckily my friend and co-worked Ann-Marie volunteered to take over Tina's job.

I really wish that Lock for Love would take color treated hair-and yes, my hair is highlighted.
 BEFORE:
down to my waist and in desperate need
of some bleachy beachy highlights

AFTER:
Yup, we cut a lot off.

I wasn't the only one that got treated to wonderful, new hair stuff!! Several weeks ago I was lucky enough to win a Chickband! As I browsed through their large selection of bands, once I saw the Disney Princess collection, I knew LOLA had to have one!!
Disney Princesses Thin Non Slip Chickband 7/8 Inch

I sat down with Lola and she actually ended up picking the Ariel one!
Disney Princess Ariel Non Slip Headband 1 inch

It's a very exciting day when Lola gets mail!!

Lola will be stoked as a teenager when she knows I put THIS pic out into cyberspace!!

These bands stayed in so well, Lola refused to take it off and wore it to bed. This pic is the next morning. Take note of the matching Ariel pj's!!

Kara was so nice to include this awesome band for ME too!!

Camo Girl Pink Thin Non Slip Chickband 7/8 inch
It matches my dream bike perfectly!!

Kara has been so kind to donate some Chickbands to anyone who donates to my fundraiser for Ulman Cancer Fund and Rev 3's Run Across America!!!

TEAM FIGHT Collection Chickbands
How perfect is THIS design??
I think everyone on the Run Across America Team should have one!!
