Not Winning & a Winner

The news has been reporting for days that a Nor'Easter would be heading into New England today-April Fools Day-and I kept hoping that it was a joke. You know, I can see it now-all the local meteorologists got together and thought is would be funny to tell these weary Mainers that MORE snow was on the way. What a great April Fool's joke they would be playing on us! In the end, everyone would laugh and be happy that it was really sunny and warm. Ahhh, Spring!
This is what I was hoping, but
No Joke.
This is what we woke up to this morning.

It is supposed to snow All.Freaking.Day.
Sweet.
Just when all the snow from this hellacious winter is almost gone-BAM! more snow. They* (they being those pesky meteorologists) are saying we will get anywhere from 3 inches up to 12 inches. It could turn to rain. It will probably sleet. Who knows?? All I know is that it is definitely snowing right now.
I also know that Caratunk Girl is probably getting way more snow than I am today. Sorry Girl!! You know you are welcome to come down this way anytime to ride!! And make sure you bring your RUN EMZ shirt so we can be twins!
*Side note: I think I want to come back as a meteorologist in my next life--it's the only job I know of where you can be wrong a majority of the time and still get paid quite well.

I guess it is fitting that I have my first triathlon of the season on Sunday and it is called
(wait for it)

The Nor'Easter
ha ha ha
Very funny Mother Nature.
You got me on this one.
This is now posted on the website:

Mother Nature is trying to upstage us with her own Nor'easter on April 1st.  Please watch the website for updates and any possible changes that may occur.  We are considering moving packet pickup to Saturday AM.  We are also considering a delayed start on Sunday if there is still some ice on the roads.   We are keeping calm and remembering that weather forecasts are frequently wrong...

Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be in the 40's so I am hoping that whatever snow accumulates today will be well gone come Sunday or I just might be doing this one on my mountain bike.

A BIG thank you to everyone who entered my RoadID Giveaway!!

It is comments like these that just reinforce the need for everyone to have a RoadID!

Just wanted to mention that I was in a bad wreck and I couldn't remember my husbands phone number (everything is programmed in my cell). Luckily I had my phone on me (which is not always the case...bad i know...) and was able to find it. After that wreck I bought a Road ID for me and hubs. I wear it on every run and ride. GREAT GIVEAWAY

Here's why I need this: I almost got splattered all over a FedEx truck today... driver just rolled out into traffic right in front of me. Fortunately heard me screaming as her window was down. Grrrr. So... I thought about the fact that I don't yet have a RoadID as I tried to stop shaking! I'd just get the basic black, or I love the orange in Elite stylel I'd get "today is not that day" (that's my blog title!) And I already follow your blog :-) Good giveaway, thanks!

There were 147 eligible entries-since today is a snow day it would be the perfect time to let LOLA pick the winner.

Each eligible entry name was written on a sheet of notebook paper.

Then I cut each name into a small strip of paper

Each name was then folded in half and placed into a Tupperware container

Said container was then given to LOLA to shake around

She shook it

She kicked it

Then she got to pick the winner!!

And the winner is.....

it says: ltlindian

Congratulations to ltlindian!!
Send me an email and I will get you hooked up with your new RoadID!!

Celebration Cupcake & Giveaway!

Tuesday morning, 9:15 am
It was a late start to the day for me but I was battling a head cold and poor sleep habits since Sunday. I slept in until 6:30 am-yes, that is WAY late for me. Not only was I dealing with this congested head but my tummy was not feeling too happy either.
Today's training plan called for a bike time trail with Charles, Evil Bike/Triathlon Guru at 10:00am followed by a 3 mile run. There was little doubt that I was going to back out of the TT and Charles understood once he got a good look at me.
It became a date with the treadmill. I knew I had to log 5 miles to finish up my miles for The Cupcake Marathon and even if I had to run those miles at a 10 minute pace today, I was gonna finish this AND sweat this cold out of me.
Now to add a little twist to the mix-due to the previously mentioned tummy ache I did not eat anything this morning before going to the gym. Nor did I have anything besides coffee to drink.
I jumped on the treadmill, popped on some motivational music and pressed GO! A slow start but about 7 mins in I could feel my run rhythm coming along. I was feeling pretty ick by 4.35 miles and could have easily called it a day there. I was definitely feeling the lack of calories and fluids now. Luckily, I had some HEED with me and plenty of water! Drink it up girl and get your backside in gear. At this time, I threw on my favorite song of the week (I Need a Doctor by Dr. Dre and Eminem) and this pushed me thru the miles. I finished this run at a 7:47 pace and ran for 6 miles.
I then felt a bit of nausea and took an easy cooldown on the bike...until Miss Mara from the Kids Klub came to get me on behalf of Lola. Who then all of a sudden did not have to go potty anymore. Instead she wanted to "ride the bike" next to me-Lucky for you, I had my camera handy.

I don't get it Mom? This is EASY! Why do you sweat so much???

The Cupcake Marathon miles are done and here is my official recap:
3/14: No pictures I forgot 3.1 miles in 24 mins
3/15: Again, no pictures, dang it! 2 miles (off the bike) in 17 mins

3/16: picture attempted, fail! But witness by fellow my friend, fellow Cupcaker and blogger, Andrea. For details on this amazing attempt you can always catch it here.  5 miles in 41 mins

3/17: no pics of this either 2.24 miles (off the bike/cooldown) in 20 mins but I did a double run on this day which I totally forgot about! Ran 3.25 miles with Dawn in 30 mins outside that afternoon and I took a pic of my Garmin!

3/18: no run

3/19: Running in Boston! Pics of me on Storrow Drive AND my Garmin! 8.85 miles

3/22: I remembered my camera again! And I did not shut off the TM before I took a picture! 6.02 miles
Total Miles: 30.63 miles
Total Time: 4:34
Avg Pace: 8:56

This was a fun virtual race and I look forward to the Fall Edition. I also hear rumors of a Pizza Triathlon!! Yay for pizza...

This brings me to the celebration part!
Spring is in the air for most of you-this is what I woke up to on Tuesday morning...

With the Spring weather comes more outside activity like running and biking outside.
I pray to God that each and every one of you will never need it but each and every one of you should have it:

A RoadID!!

Last year I finally got myself a RoadID-sweet little pink WristID Sport at the Maine Marathon Expo and I love(d) it! That is until I could no longer find it. I suspect that little fingers (aka Lola) got ahold of it and it is sitting on the bottom of her toy box or one of her play pocketbooks as we speak.

I definitely needed to replace the missing RoadID especially since I am getting outside now. This time I decided to go with the Wrist ID Elite and picked orange to match my new bike colors. Orange is the new pink right??

The Wrist ID Elite just might be the sexiest ID in the Road ID lineup. With its rubberized band and watch-style buckle, this sleek ID has you covered on the bike, in the boardroom and everywhere in-between. It's perfect for all of your outdoor activities and knows how to play it cool at formal events.

This time I also decided to make some changes as to what info I would put on the ID.
I actually read the little hints and tips that popped up while creating my RoadID.
Last time I put my full address-this time I did not!
Last time I did not put any motivational saying or words-this time I did!
I put my name, year of birth, emergency contacts and then the last two lines read-

...BELIEVE...
BE FEARLESS
The package arrived perfectly protected
Lola could not wait to open the pretty silver box!

Pretty, can I have it Mama??

Everything I needed to set up my new Road ID Elite

The first attempt at finding the right size was a tad off-too big! But that's ok-there is plenty of space to make adjustments. I do suggest being conservative when cutting. Remember what my father-in-law always says "Measure twice but cut only once. You can always cut more but you cannot add more!"

Second "fitting" was a success! I love the fit and feel of the Elite ID and it'll match Tiger! It'll also match the theme of my new "A" race of the 2011 season but I'm saving that for another post!

Here it is! The Cupcake Celebration

It was super easy to fit, I love the style and comfort of the Elite model and hope that you like it as much as I do!

As I said earlier, I hope and pray that you never need to use you RoadID but I think each and every active person should have one-it does not matter if you walk around the block or run double digits daily.

1. If you can’t speak for yourself, Road ID will speak for you.
2. Road ID enables First Responders to immediately contact family members and friends.
3. Road ID enables family members to provide additional details about your health or give consent for potentially life saving procedures.
4. Road ID enables hospital staff to locate vital medical records.
5. Road ID can communicate medical conditions or allergy information to medical staff.
6. Road ID can prevent serious delays in treatment by saving crucial time during the “golden hour” of medical treatment.
7. It’s far better to have Road ID and not need it than to need Road ID and not have it. It’s not just a piece of gear, it’s peace of mind.
8. Accidents happen far more than you think they do. Each year approximately 450,000 of us are taken to hospitals unconscious and without identification.
9. Road ID looks good on and makes a statement about your athletic lifestyle – not to mention that studies would probably prove that people that wear Road ID are considerably smarter than those that don’t.
10. Road ID can save your Life. Period.

So how do you enter to win a RoadID of your own?
Leave a separate comment for each entry:

1) MANDATORY Visit RoadID and tell me what model and color you will pick if you win. I also want to know what motivational word or phrase you will have put on your RoadID
2) MANDATORY Be a follower of this blog.
3) follow RoadID on Twitter and tweet this:
@milesmusclesmom wants you to be safe-Spring into action, enter the @RoadID giveaway today! http://bit.ly/hgbk5K
4) like RoadID on Facebook and write on their wall that Jen from MilesMusclesMommyhood sent ya!
5) Are you a participant in The Cupcake Marathon? You get an extra entry!!

I will take entries until 3/31/11. The winner will be selected by Random.org or names will be written on pcs of paper and picked at random by my 2 year old daughter, Lola. I will announce the winner on April 1st!!

Disclosure: I was given this RoadID to review by Outside PR and was not compensated in any way, shape or form for my positive reivew. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Falling for Fall!

Happy Humpday!
It's Wednesday and what a week it has been so far!

The view from behind the BOB on Tuesday's run

I am falling in love with fall running! I got out with Lola for a nap time run (6 miles) yesterday. I could not get her to nap at all so I decided a jaunt out in the jogger may do the trip! SUCCESS-about 1 mile into the run she was O-U-T and I was out running so life was good!

Sleeping Beauty finally fell asleep

The view along the run yesterday really was pretty-and the weather was PERFECT! I find myself being so thankful lately for so many things. The simple things. The things that make my heart happy and bring a smile to my face.

Wilcox Pond~so pretty with the fall colors!

Our neighborhood farm stand was closed for the day :(

The wind was really strong yesterday so it felt like I was pushing 1,000lbs at times but if I have to take a run with the jogger vs. NO run well...the BOB wins any day! I am sure I will get out for several more BOB runs this week while the weather is still good.

What else is going on?? Let's see-

~I finally got myself a RoadID-in PINK!!! While we were at the Maine Marathon Expo, I stopped by the vendor table there and the very, very nice guy running it gave me a $15.00 gift certificate AND a $2.00 off coupon so it was practically FREE!!

Is this overkill??? *lol*

~My Mom has been the source of many moments of laughter for me lately. She is in the middle of a big redecorating project at her house and since I have zero talent (or interest) in this kind of thing there are several situations I find very amusing. How many paint chips does one person really need? Don't get me wrong-she is very talented at this kind of thing! When she describes some idea to me, most times I have a hard time wrapping my head around it but always, in the end, it looks amazing. But sometimes I wonder if she has gone plum-crazy!

For example-buying pom-pom fringe for a bed skirt. Yes, pom-pom fringe is funny to me. What is so amusing about it? Well, for starters that she would actually order this kind of thing and be all excited to drive 30 mins north to pick it up! Wait, oops-No, they made a mistake at the fabric store and it did not come in. So she drove almost an HOUR south to a different fabric store to get it. Even funnier?? She paid an OBSCENE amount of money (in my opinion) for pom-pom fringe. My Dad even thought she was insane so when he said something about the INFLATED price of pom-pom fringe to the cashier, they were given a 50% discount coupon. And in my opinion, it is still WAY more money than anyone of the face of this earth should ever pay for pom-poms-it's just crazy*!!

*but she probably thinks the same exact thing about spending money on compression socks!!

With the holidays just around the corner, I am looking forward the the Christmas decorations that will grace her bathroom. You read that correctly-The bathroom. It's done tastefully-no laughing Santa Claus holding out rolls of toilet paper or anything but...yeah. Christmas cheer can be found in her loo! Nothing says "Happy Holidays-enjoy this pee" like a wreath of dried berries and cones.

~Which brings me to shaving (TMI Warning): I have to laugh each and every time I shave my armpits now-I think of one fabulous lady from my group, WIOSM named Tammy (yes, spinach protein shake Tammy) who once put it out there that shaving your armpits when you are fat is a whole new experience once you get lean and have muscle tone. There are more grooves and valley's to shave around and the danger of cutting yourself increases 10-fold. This is SO true!

Same theory goes for the legs! Now that my legs are not shapeless blobs of fat, I have to be much more more careful! So here's to you Tammy-once again I was thinking of you in the shower today! That just sounds wrong huh?

~Thank you to those who voted in my "star" poll. It looks like the overwhelming majority of you (all 7!!) think I should be shooting for the FULL MARY! I think I can make that happen.
I am still hyper-focused on getting me some EMZ-ABS (as they will be officially be called from here on out!)

But the 100 push ups is still on my radar and I think I will once again do the 100 push up challenge, but actually see it to completion this time.

How is YOUR week going?
